Zero Waste

With the Zero Waste Management System it established, Yaşar University was entitled to receive the ‘Zero Waste Certificate’ given by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Yaşar University, which sets up collection stations by sorting waste at different points on the campus, contributes to the recycling of tons of recyclable waste from paper to glass, plastic to metal.

Yaşar University, which was the first university to receive the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certificate in 2016, also implemented the Zero Waste Management System and was entitled to receive the Zero Waste Certificate from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Yaşar University, which continues its projects and studies on environmental sustainability within the framework of the sustainability principle in its strategic plan, continues its studies in this context with the Green University Operation Working Commission it has established. The Commission carries out a series of studies to plan the formation of a green campus, to prevent environmental pollution, to manage renewable energy and sustainable resources, and to reduce the carbon footprint of the campus, from reducing waste to increasing recycling.

With the Zero Waste Management System established within the scope of these studies, the wastes collected with 440 waste bins and 29 containers placed at different points on the campus are separated and given to licensed companies, enabling the recycling and recovery of tons of recyclable waste. It is of great importance to classify the waste correctly from the source in order to ensure that wastes do not pollute the nature and that recycling and recovery are carried out correctly. In this context, non-recyclable wastes and paper-glass-plastic-metal wastes in different areas; Contaminated wastes, battery wastes, medical wastes, filter, paint, electronics, lighting equipment wastes, motor oil wastes are classified and collected separately in different areas.
